'We’d ditch boys for make-up'

... Say most Delhi girls, who also admit that their makeup tab runs to over a thousand bucks per month
'We’d ditch boys for make-up'
This one is for the boys. Especially the ones who really believed their girl when she said she was sick and called off that date.
A recent UK study says that women spend around `2,800 a week, and around `7,230,000 in a lifetime, on their makeup. But it doesn’t stop there. It goes on to state that 57 per cent ladies who responded to the study said that they’d rather ditch a guy on a date, than their makeup.

As atrocious as it sounds, we had to find out if it was the same case with Delhi girls, and here’s the verdict.
Financial consultant Krittika Sharma, 23, says, “You know it actually depends on when the date is – evening or morning. Like, girls are more likely to put makeup in the evening than in the morning, so chances of cancellation are more then. Evening means assembling a whole look – dress, makeup and the works, whereas morning is simpler.” Well, here’s a tip guys, go for a morning coffee date rather than an elaborate dinner.
And it’s not only the time of the day, but the weather as well, that helps in decision-making. After all, no girl wants her makeup dripping off on a rainy day, does she? Dipika Gambhir, 24, who spends around `3000 a month on cosmetics, says that make-up really does matter when it comes to cancellation of dates. “It is true I think. It actually depends on the weather also.” The weather? “Yeah, if the weather is nice or not. Also, dates scheduled in the evening may get turned down more often, if the girl isn’t feeling too good about her looks. Evening is a time when all eyes are on her.”
However some say that all these factors should be overlooked when it comes to the matters of the heart. “If this study is actually true, then I would like to meet such women! If a girl ditches a guy for makeup, well, then the guy is better off,” says Zuleikha Gupta, 25, research associate, adding, “I usually spend around one to two grand on makeup per month, and that seems enough. I don’t want to look like a made-up mannequin.”
Mansi Chatpalliwar, 23, student, however, tries to see sense in both arguments and adds, “I generally wear kajal and gloss, and I highly doubt that if I forget to wear my kajal, I’ll ditch my date. But you know, for some women, its more about the whole ‘look’, and this is especially true for the evenings. If it’s a special date, they have the shoes, the dress and the makeup ready. And if something goes wrong, and they feel the look isn’t complete, they might call in sick. Though, this is a little bit too extreme for me. If the dress and the makeup isn’t going together, then ditch the dress for a pair of jeans, not the guy.”
